In 1989 I did a test shoot with an unknown photographer in Paris who later published a book on fashion photography and my photo was in it. Random House in the US saw the picture and bought the rights from him, but without my consent. I never signed a model release form agreeing to use my picture. The photographer said he looked for me, but couldn’t find me or my agency…. In 2002 a friend was in NY and upon returning to London placed a book on the table and asked if I recognised the portrait on the cover. Must confess I did not, he laughed and exclaimed after some moments in disbelief that it was me! It was indeed, but they had put some WWI soldiers in the background and blurred the image a bit. This book at the time and for years after was a bestseller. The book is the American edition of Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks. Over the years they have added different covers. I could easily prove it was me so I contacted RH thinking it would be immediately sorted. I got no where and they just kept on printing the book with my face on the cover. Do you realise just how blessed you are? Life is so fast paced that it can be easy to take our blessings for granted at times until we see a friend who may be experiencing hardship in health or a relationship. All you need to do is switch on the news to be reminded of the dire state of the world to realise how fortunate you are. But wouldn’t it be great if we could just wake up every morning and be thankful to God for another day to be alive, to be able to breathe another breath through our lungs, to be able to see with our eyes nature and all it’s splendour that surrounds us, to hear with our ears the familiar voices of those we love and to be able to love with all of our heart. The list goes on and on. Feeling that gratitude all you need sometimes is just a smile, or an encouraging word said at the right time to someone in need. Have you ever been in a tense atmosphere and smiled at someone you don’t know and they smile back? Sometimes they don’t, but in most cases people do because they are generally good hearted. It doesn’t take much to bless someone else and your kindness will certainly have a ripple effect not just limited to one person, but will touch many more lives than you can ever imagine. ❤️and Light . . . . . #fashionshoot #paris #blessings #gratitude

All I can remember about this shoot in Tokyo were the massive bodyguards who surrounded me as they took very expensive diamonds out of the safe to be photographed. Tokyo was a fascinating experience and I do vividly remember all the fun I had with the other models in Roppongi dancing until early hours of the morning! At some point during my stay the building I resided in began to shake and it wasn’t earthquake proof. I was on a flight the next day to NY. A lot of people, myself included at times in the past, have preferred staying in an uncomfortable situation rather than moving forward into the unknown for fear of the unknown or a sense of false loyalty. The uncertainty of the unknown and all which that entails can rarely be worse than tolerating a toxic situation or an unhealthy friendship or relationship. There is a certain subconscious comfort in the familiar whereas the unfamiliar is unexplored territory and means something big has to change. That can be scary and overwhelming even to think about especially when it involves other people and not just yourself. Then there are just some situations we can’t escape or are not meant to escape in order to grow and that’s when we need to find the peace, meaning and harmony in the storm. I do not refer to a dangerous situation which in that case one must always find a way to escape no matter what. Growth is not possible on a deeper level without the strain and pain of the mundane, but sometimes in the very ordinary silence of the mundane is also where if we are still enough we can experience the extraordinary presence of God.
