7213I did this shoot in the early nineties in post communist Hungary with the wonderful late Dutch photographer Miep Jukkema. It was a 3 week journey and was so much fun actually doing the scouting for locations with the photographer and team in a van. We just kept driving and driving for miles and when Miep found the perfect spot and light the shoot happened. 12320Probably most of you are familiar with the biblical story told by Jesus of “The Good Samaritan”(Luke 10:29-37) which is so incredibly relevant to the times we are living in and through. It is a story of compassion, redemption and grace as two men from completely opposite ends of the spectrum encounter each other and discover what it means to be a good person exemplifying “love your neighbour as yourself” A traveller is going from Jerusalem to Jericho and is attacked by bandits who leave him for dead. A priest and a Levite see him and do not help, but continue their journey. A Samaritan who would have been discriminated against in the past for religious differences and practices is the only one who rescues the injured man and generously offers to pay for his care until he is fully restored to health not wanting anything in return. The Samaritan in the story becomes the unlikely hero challenging the prejudices of the time. Even though the world feels divisive right now do not be fooled. Love fundamentally unites us all and is the common denominator of humanity. It’s easy to love our friends and harder to love those who seem unlovable, but the importance of loving and helping everyone in need just as the Good Samaritan did is something we should all strive to do and this principle needs to be applied now more than ever. ❤️ and Light . . . . . #thegoodsamaritan #peace #jesus #compassion #redemption #grace
